What is Reyvow?
Reyvow (lasmiditan) is an oral medication approved by the FDA for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults. It belongs to a class of drugs known as serotonin receptor agonists, and it functions by targeting and binding to 5-HT1F receptors, which may play a role in migraine pain relief. Reyvow is not intended for the preventive treatment of migraine and is distinct from other migraine medications in its class due to its unique mechanism of action.
Side Effects
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Anxiety, restlessness, fast heartbeat, fever, sweating, muscle spasms, twitching, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seeing or hearing things that are not there
- Unusual drowsiness or sleepiness
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, or bradycardia (low heart rate).
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Serotonin syndrome (when used with certain medicines)Decrease in heart rateIncrease in blood pressure
- This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Wait at least 8 hours after taking this medicine before you drive or do anything else that requires you to be alert.
- Your headaches may become worse if you use headache medicine for 10 or more days per month. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.
- Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
