Looking for a flurbiprofen coupon? Flurbiprofen is a prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is available as a low-cost generic, so you do not need a brand name to save. Cash prices still vary widely from one pharmacy to the next, which is why it pays to compare. Enter your ZIP above to see today's price at pharmacies near you. Rx.com compares prices across more than 60,000 pharmacies so you can find the lowest cash price on your prescription, with or without insurance.
What is flurbiprofen and how does it work?
Flurbiprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) in the propionic acid class, the same broad family as ibuprofen and naproxen. Like other NSAIDs, it works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. Oral flurbiprofen (formerly sold under the brand name Ansaid, which has been discontinued in the US) is FDA-approved to relieve the pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Flurbiprofen also comes as an ophthalmic (eye) solution known as Ocufen, a flurbiprofen sodium 0.03% drop that eye surgeons use to help keep the pupil from constricting during eye surgery. These are two different products for two very different purposes, so it is important to use the form your provider prescribed.
Flurbiprofen cost and how to save without insurance
Flurbiprofen is available as a generic, and generics are generally much less expensive than brand-name drugs. Even so, the cash price you pay can differ a lot depending on which pharmacy you use, so comparing prices in your area is the single best way to avoid overpaying. There are no widely advertised over-the-counter versions of prescription oral flurbiprofen in the US, so most people fill it at a pharmacy with a prescription.
If you are paying without insurance, or if your insurance copay is higher than the cash price, an Rx.com coupon can help. We compare the cash price across more than 60,000 pharmacies. Enter your ZIP above to see today's price near you, then bring the coupon to the pharmacy counter.
Flurbiprofen alternatives and related NSAIDs
Flurbiprofen is one of many NSAIDs, and several close alternatives are also available as low-cost generics. If your provider is considering options, or you simply want to compare prices, you may want to look at:
- Ibuprofen and naproxen — the most familiar propionic acid NSAIDs
- Ketoprofen — another propionic acid NSAID
- Diclofenac and meloxicam — commonly prescribed for arthritis
- Indomethacin — an older NSAID used for inflammatory pain
These medicines are not identical, and each has its own dosing and safety profile, so which one is right for you is a decision to make with your provider. You can compare prices on any of them here on Rx.com.
Flurbiprofen safety and side effects
Like all NSAIDs, flurbiprofen carries boxed warnings. NSAIDs can increase the risk of serious and potentially fatal cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke; this risk can rise with longer use and in people who already have or are at risk for heart disease. It should not be used to treat pain right before or after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. NSAIDs can also cause serious gastrointestinal problems, including bleeding, ulcers, and tears in the stomach or intestines, which can happen without warning and can be fatal, with older adults at higher risk.
Other possible risks include high blood pressure, fluid retention, kidney or liver problems, serious skin reactions, and allergic reactions. Flurbiprofen should be avoided during the third trimester of pregnancy. With the eye solution, NSAID drops may slow corneal healing, especially if used with steroid eye drops. This is general information and not medical advice, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether flurbiprofen is right for you and report any concerning symptoms promptly.
