What is Asmanex Hfa?
Asmanex HFA (mometasone furoate) is an inhaled corticosteroid prescribed to control and prevent symptoms of asthma in patients aged 5 years and older. It works by reducing inflammation in the airways, thereby improving breathing and preventing asthma attacks when used regularly as directed. Asmanene HFA is not intended for the relief of acute bronchospasm.Side Effects
- White patches inside your mouth or throat, pain when eating or swallowing
- Eye pain, trouble seeing, any changes in vision
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease, eye or vision problems (including cataracts, glaucoma), osteoporosis, tuberculosis, or any type of infection. Tell your doctor if you have been recently exposed to measles or chickenpox.
- This should not be the first and only medicine you use for asthma. This medicine will not stop an asthma attack that has already started. Your doctor may prescribe another medicine for you to use in case of an acute asthma attack.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Adrenal gland problemsFungus infection of the mouth or throat (thrush)Decrease in bone mineral density, which can lead to weak bonesIncreased risk of infectionSlow growth in childrenGlaucoma or cataractsParadoxical bronchospasm (trouble breathing right after use)
- This medicine helps prevent asthma attacks for most people, but some people may have more severe asthma attacks when they use it. Talk to your doctor about what you should do if this happens.
- Inhalation routeIf any of your asthma medicines do not seem to be working as well as usual, call your doctor right away. Do not change your doses or stop using your medicines without asking your doctor.

- You may need to use this medicine for 1 to 2 weeks before your asthma starts to improve. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.
