What is Carbimazole?
Carbimazole is an antithyroid medication primarily used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland produces excessive hormones. Warnings
- Blood disorders such as agranulocytosis can lead to severe infections. Monitor white blood cell counts regularly.
- Immediate discontinuation is required at the first sign of severe hepatic disorders, hematological reactions, or skin reactions.
- Avoid use in patients with severe hepatic and renal impairment.
- Potential teratogenic effects when used during pregnancy. Use only when clearly necessary and after assessing the risks and benefits.
- Requires regular monitoring of thyroid levels to avoid over- or under-correction of thyroid function.
