What is Epidiolex?
Epidiolex is an FDA-approved oral solution medication, primarily prescribed for the treatment of seizures associated with two rare and severe forms of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome, in patients two years of age and older. It contains cannabidiol (CBD), a substance derived from the cannabis plant, which acts on the central nervous system to reduce the frequency and intensity of seizures. Epidiolex is notable for being the first cannabis-derived prescription medicine approved in the U.S.
Side Effects
- Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
- Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Liver problemsChanges in behavior or mood, including thoughts of suicide
- This medicine may make you drowsy. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
- Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.
