What is Eplerenone?
Eplerenone is a selective aldosterone receptor antagonist used primarily in the management of heart failure and hypertension. By blocking the actions of the hormone aldosterone in the kidneys, it helps reduce blood pressure and prevents fluid retention. Eplerenone is particularly beneficial for patients post-myocardial infarction and those with heart failure to improve survival and reduce hospitalization.Side Effects
- Confusion, weakness, uneven heartbeat, trouble breathing, numbness or tingling in your hands, feet, or lips
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Do not stop using this medicine without asking your doctor, even if you feel well. This medicine will not cure high blood pressure, but it will help keep it in normal range. You may have to take blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or diabetes.
- This medicine may cause hyperkalemia (high potassium levels in your blood).
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
