What is Lubiprostone?
Lubiprostone is a chloride channel activator used primarily to treat chronic idiopathic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation in adults. By increasing chloride and water secretion into the intestines, it enhances intestinal motility and facilitates easier passage of stool. Lubiprostone also improves stool consistency and decreases abdominal discomfort.Side Effects

- Severe diarrhea, stomach pain or swelling
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease, low blood pressure, severe diarrhea, or a sudden change in bowel movements.
- This medicine may make you feel dizzy or lightheaded. Stand or sit up slowly if you are dizzy. This is more likely to happen when you begin to use the medicine or if you become dehydrated.
- Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
