What is Niacin Er (Antihyperlipidemic)?
Niacin ER (extended release), scientifically known as nicotinic acid, is an antihyperlipidemic medication used to manage cholesterol levels. It effectively decreases LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides whilst increasing HDL (good cholesterol) by inhibiting hepatic synthesis of VLDL cholesterol. Niacin ER is typically prescribed in cases where dietary changes alone have been insufficient to correct lipid levels.
