What is Sodium Acetate ?

Sodium acetile (CH3COONa), commonly used as an electrolyte replenisher in medical treatments, is an anhydrous, hygroscopic powder. When administered intravenously, it helps to correct sodium levels in the body, functioning as a source of sodium and acetate ions for metabolic processes. This agent is critical in treating conditions like metabolic acidosis or to restore electrolyte balance after fluid loss.

• New coughing or trouble breathing.
• Trouble urinating, or a change in how much or how often you urinate.
• Confusion, weakness, light-headedness, or fainting.

• Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet, or rapid weight gain.

• Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Your sodium needs may be different than normal.
• Make sure your doctor knows if you have a history of breathing problems, diabetes, a narrowed or blocked urinary tract, or kidney disease. Tell your doctor if you have heart disease, congestive heart failure, heart rhythm problems, or if you are on a low salt diet. Make sure your doctor knows about any other health problems you may have.
