What is Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate?
Sotradecol (sodium tetradecyl sulfate) is a sclerosing agent used in the treatment of small uncomplicated varicose veins of the lower extremities. It works by inducing inflammation and thrombosis in the vein, which leads to fibrosis and obliteration of the vein itself, thus reducing the appearance and symptoms of varicose veins. Administered via intra-venous injection, it is generally used when other conservative treatments have failed or are unsuitable.Side Effects
- Numbness or weakness in your arm or leg, or on one side of your body, sudden or severe headache, problems with vision, speech, or walking
- Chest pain, trouble breathing, coughing up blood
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Pain in your lower leg (calf).
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- This medicine may increase your risk of having blood clots in the brain, heart, blood vessels, or lungs, which may lead to stroke, heart attack, deep vein thrombosis, or pulmonary embolism.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have an artery disease (including Buerger's disease).
