What is Xcopri?
Xcopri (cenobamate) is an anticonvulsant medication approved for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in adult patients. It works by reducing excessive electrical activity in the brain, likely through enhancing the inhibitory action of GABA and reducing the activity of excitatory neurotransmitters. Xcopri is generally prescribed when other seizure medications have not been effective, and it is available by prescription only.
Side Effects
- Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
- Unusual changes in mood or behavior, unusual thoughts, trouble sleeping
- Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat, fainting
Warnings
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Heart rhythm problems (including QT shortening)Serious skin reactions, including drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS).
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
- This medicine may make you dizzy, drowsy, or clumsy. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.
- Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.
