Nulojix (balatacept) is a prescription medication commonly used for preventing acute rejection in patients who have received a kidney transplant. This immunosuppressant is designed to help the body accept the new organ by modulating the immune response. It works by specifically targeting certain immune cells—T-cells—which are responsible for attacking foreign tissues, thereby reducing the risk of transplant rejection.

Typically administered via an intravenous infusion, Nulojix is usually given to patients alongside other immunosuppressive therapies. Its effectiveness is enhanced when used in combination with medications that further inhibit the immune response. The primary use of Nulojix is in adult patients who are at moderate to high risk for organ rejection after kidney transplantation.

As with any medication, Nulojix may cause side effects. Common side effects experienced by users include headaches, diarrhea, nausea, and increased risk of infections due to a weakened immune system. Patients should report any unusual symptoms to their healthcare provider, especially those relating to infection or severe reactions.
