- Your headaches may become worse if you use zolmitriptan alone or in combination with other migraine medicines for 10 or more days per month. Keep a headache diary to record your headache frequency and drug use.
- This medicine may cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome when taken with certain medicines. Call your doctor right away if you have a fever, confusion, mental changes, restlessness, fast heartbeat, muscle spasms, trouble walking, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
- Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.

What is zolmitriptan and how does it work?
Zolmitriptan is a selective serotonin (5-HT1B/1D) receptor agonist, a class of migraine drugs known as triptans. It works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain and blocking the release of substances that trigger migraine pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. It is used for the acute treatment of migraine, with or without aura, in adults, meaning it relieves a migraine attack that has already started. It is not a preventive medicine and will not stop future migraines from happening. It is also not approved to treat cluster headache.
Zolmitriptan comes in several forms: standard oral tablets, orally disintegrating tablets (ZMT, which dissolve on the tongue without water), and a nasal spray. Safety and who should not take zolmitriptan
Zolmitriptan does not carry a boxed warning, but it is not safe for everyone. It should not be used by people with ischemic heart disease, coronary artery vasospasm (Prinzmetal angina), uncontrolled high blood pressure, a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA), peripheral vascular disease, or hemiplegic or basilar migraine. Do not take it within 24 hours of another triptan or any ergotamine-type migraine medicine. It should not be used with, or within two weeks of stopping, an MAO inhibitor, which can raise zolmitriptan levels.
Combining zolmitriptan with certain antidepressants such as SSRIs or SNRIs can raise the risk of serotonin syndrome. The medicine can also cause tightness in the chest, jaw, or throat, and rare serious heart problems. Using any triptan too often can lead to medication-overuse (rebound) headaches.
