What is Prostin Vr?
Prostin VR (alprostadil) is a synthetic form of prostaglandin E1 used in the medical management of neonates with congenital heart defects such as duct-dependent pulmonary circulation to maintain patency of the ductus arteriosus until corrective or palliative surgery can be performed. It is administered intravenously and acts as a vasodilator to improve blood flow and oxygenation in affected neonates.
Side Effects
- Trouble breathing
- Seizures, fainting, or becoming limp
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Tell caregivers if your baby has problems with breathing, digestion, or bleeding.
- Fast or slow heartbeat
- Redness, swelling, or leaking from the IV site
- Seizures, fainting, or becoming limp
- Trouble breathing
