What is Phentolamine Mesylate?
Phentolamine Mesylate is a non-selective alpha-adrenergic antagonist used for the prevention or control of hypertensive episodes associated with pheochromocytoma. It works by blocking alpha-receptors, leading to vasodilation and a decrease in blood pressure. Additionally, it is administered in diagnostic tests for pheochromocytoma and to treat dermal necrosis resulting from norepinephrine extravasation.

Warnings
- Myocardial Infarction: Phentolamine mesylate may exacerbate angina or induce myocardial infarction in patients with coronary artery disease.
- Hypotension: Potential severe hypotension and resultant cardiovascular collapse.
- Cerebrovascular: Risk of cerebrovascular spasm and ischemia in patients with catecholamine-secreting tumors undergoing treatment.
- Severe Allergic Reactions: Potential risk of severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
